Where this starts

Everyone has a
hair story.

Yours might be the drain. It might be the part that keeps getting wider. It might be the first grey at 28, or the ponytail that used to be twice as thick.

Maybe it's the temples that started backing off and never stopped. Maybe it's the clumps that came out after a baby, after surgery, after the worst year of your life. Maybe your hair isn't falling out at all — it just went flat, dull and brittle, and snaps every time you brush it.

Maybe you're not even sure there's a problem yet. You just noticed the light hits your scalp differently than it used to, and you've started taking photos from a different angle.

There is no version of being human where your hair just stays the same.

So you did what everyone does. The biotin gummies. The expensive shampoo. The scalp serum you used for three weeks. The foam, until you got tired of greasy roots and the smell. A drawer full of things that promised something and delivered a receipt.

You're not alone in this, and you didn't fail those routines. Most of them were never going to work — not because the ingredients were fake, but because they never reached the one place where hair is actually decided.

Here's what nobody explained

Your hair is not made on your head. It's made under it — inside a follicle, a tiny organ that runs on hormones, blood supply, nutrients and chemical signals.

Everything you see in the mirror is the output. Everything that matters happens upstream, out of sight, months before it shows.

That's exactly where Hair+ Please comes in. Not on your scalp. Not through your stomach. Through your skin, into your bloodstream, to every follicle you have.

The six versions of the same problem

It doesn't look the
same on everyone.

Hair complaints sound different from person to person, but almost all of them trace back to the same small set of causes. Find yours — you'll probably recognise more than one.

Thinning & a widening part

The most common pattern in women. Nothing falls out dramatically — the hair just gets finer with each cycle and the scalp shows through more.

Receding temples & crown

The classic pattern in men, and increasingly recognised in women too. Follicles in hormone-sensitive zones shrink first.

Sudden heavy shedding

Handfuls in the shower, two to three months after a stressor: illness, surgery, a crash diet, childbirth, grief. Frightening, and usually reversible.

Breakage & brittleness

Not loss at all. The hair snaps mid-shaft from heat, bleach, tension and rough handling — and looks exactly like thinning in the mirror.

Dull, flat, lifeless hair

A damaged cuticle stops reflecting light. Density can be fine while the hair still looks tired, thin and lacking body.

Going grey

The pigment cells in the follicle wind down. It's the one hair change almost everyone gets — and the one nobody explains properly. Page 21.

Different symptoms. Same organ. A follicle that's under-signalled produces finer hair. A follicle under hormonal pressure shrinks. A follicle that's lost its pigment cells produces grey. A hair shaft that's been damaged breaks. Understanding which one you're dealing with is most of the work — and this guide walks you through all of them.

The common denominator

It's not your hair.
It's the follicle.

Two people wearing Hair+ Please patches on the upper arm
Over 10,000 people have made the switch from foams and pills to a daily patch.

You have roughly 100,000 hair follicles on your head, and every one of them is running its own independent clock. Each follicle grows a hair for years, rests for a few months, sheds it, and starts again. Then it does that up to 25 times in your life.

Follicles are among the fastest-dividing cell groups in the human body. That makes them extraordinarily productive — and extraordinarily sensitive. They are the first system your body defunds when something is off, and the last one it restores.

What a follicle needs to keep performing

  • A signal telling it to stay in the growth phase
  • Blood supply delivering oxygen and raw material
  • Nutrients — protein, iron, zinc and cofactors
  • A calm environment — low inflammation, no constant tension
  • Hormonal balance it isn't fighting against

Shampoo touches none of these. It sits on your scalp for sixty seconds and rinses away. A pill addresses one of them, badly, after your digestive system has taken its cut. A foam sits on the skin surface and evaporates.

The one that declines quietly

Of all five, the first item on that list — the signal — is the one that fades without you noticing, without a test, and without a single symptom until your hair changes. That signal has a name, and it's the reason this guide exists.

The wonder peptide

Meet GHK-Cu.

Three amino acids and one copper atom. Fifty years of research. Almost nobody managed to deliver it.

In 1973, a biochemist named Loren Pickart was working on a strange observation: when human liver tissue from an older donor was incubated in blood plasma from a younger one, the old tissue started behaving young again. It synthesised protein like younger tissue. It repaired like younger tissue.

Something in young plasma was giving instructions that old plasma had stopped giving. Pickart spent years isolating it. What he found was almost absurdly small: a chain of just three amino acids — glycine, histidine and lysine — bound to a single copper ion.

Discovered by Pickart

One copper ion, carried

What it actually is

GHK-Cu isn't a drug and it isn't foreign to you. Your body makes it. It sits in your plasma, and it's released in higher amounts wherever tissue is injured — which is the clue to what it does. It is not a building block. It's an instruction.

Think of the difference between delivering bricks to a building site and handing the foreman the plans. Most supplements are bricks. GHK-Cu is closer to the plans: a signal that tells cells which programme to run.

Over five decades it has become one of the most extensively studied peptides in the literature — with research spanning wound repair, skin remodelling, tissue regeneration and, relevant here, hair follicle activity.

Mechanism

What GHK-Cu does
at the follicle.

The research on GHK-Cu points at several overlapping mechanisms. Together they describe a peptide that works on the environment and instruction set of the follicle rather than forcing a single lever.

1 · It signals dormant follicles

A follicle sitting in its resting phase isn't dead — it's waiting. GHK-Cu is associated with signalling that supports the shift back toward the active growth phase.

2 · It supports follicle size

Hormonal pressure shrinks follicles gradually — each cycle produces a slightly finer hair. GHK-Cu has been studied for its association with follicle enlargement, the reverse of that process.

3 · It extends the growth phase

How long a follicle stays in its active phase determines how long and how thick the hair can get. A longer growth phase is the single most valuable thing for visible density.

4 · It supports circulation to the follicle

GHK-Cu has been associated with the formation of small blood vessels. A follicle with better supply is a follicle with better output.

5 · It supports the tissue the follicle sits in

Follicles are anchored in collagen and connective tissue. GHK-Cu's most-studied role is in remodelling exactly that scaffolding.

Based on published research on GHK-Cu (Pickart et al., 2018). These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

The decline

You are running
out of it.

Here is the part that reframes everything.

GHK-Cu is not something you lack because of bad luck or bad genes. You had plenty of it. In your twenties your plasma levels were high. Then they started falling, steadily, every year — and nobody told you, because there's no symptom and no routine test for it.

20s
Peak plasma levels
−60%
By around age 60
100%
Of receptors still present

The cruel part

Your follicles don't lose the ability to respond. The receptors are still there, still functional, still waiting. They just stop receiving the message. It isn't a broken radio. It's a transmitter going quiet.

Why this matters for the timing of your decision

A follicle under-signalled for a year is a follicle that can be signalled again. A follicle under-signalled for a decade has miniaturised much further, and there is a point at which it stops producing anything visible and cannot be brought back.

That window is real, it varies enormously between people, and it closes gradually rather than all at once. Which leads to the only genuinely urgent sentence in this entire guide:

Every month spent deciding is a month not spent signalling.

This is also why results are not linear. You are not "growing hair." You are restoring instruction to follicles that still work — and then waiting for the hair they produce to become long enough to see.

The copper question

Copper, pigment
and grey hair.

People often ask whether the copper in GHK-Cu has anything to do with grey hair. The honest answer requires separating two things that get carelessly blended together in marketing.

What is actually true

The enzyme that produces melanin — the pigment that gives your hair its colour — is called tyrosinase. It is a copper-dependent enzyme. Without copper as a cofactor sitting in its active site, tyrosinase cannot function. That isn't a claim; it's basic biochemistry, and it's why copper appears constantly in pigment research.

GHK-Cu's defining property is that it is a copper carrier: it binds copper and transports it to tissue in a form cells can use. So the connection is genuine and it's the reason the question keeps coming up.

And what is not

Grey hair happens primarily because the pigment-producing cells themselves are depleted — not because they ran out of copper. Once the melanocyte stem cell reservoir in a follicle is exhausted, supplying copper doesn't rebuild it.

No product, including this one, reliably reverses grey hair. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling you something. We'd rather you trusted the rest of this guide.

What's fair to say: healthy pigment production depends on copper availability, and Hair+ Please delivers copper in a bioavailable, carried form as part of how GHK-Cu works. That is a supporting role in normal pigment biology, not a reversal claim.

The full science of why hair goes grey — including what stress genuinely does to pigment cells — is on page 21. It's one of the most interesting things in this book.

Fifty years in a drawer

So why haven't you
heard of it?

Comparison of a Patch Please patch against a shelf of serums and minoxidil
The problem was never the molecule. It was everything used to carry it.

Here's the frustrating history: GHK-Cu has been sitting in the literature since the seventies. Nobody was hiding it. It appeared in expensive serums and in research papers.

The molecule was never the problem. Delivery was.

Format What happens to the peptide
In a foam or serum Copper peptides oxidise on contact with air. The product starts degrading the moment the bottle is opened, and what survives mostly evaporates off the skin surface within minutes.
In a capsule It's a peptide — a short protein chain. Your digestive system exists specifically to break protein chains apart. Most of it is dismantled before absorption.
In an injection Effective, and entirely impractical as a daily routine for the general public.
Sealed against skin No air contact, so no oxidation. No digestion. Gradual, controlled absorption over hours.

That last row is the entire product. Same peptide science has known about for fifty years — finally in a format that gets it where it needs to go, every day, without you thinking about it.

The product

What is
Hair+ Please?

Hair+ Please pack with 30 patches
30 patches per pack — one month. One patch a day, worn for 8 hours.

A small, discreet patch you apply to clean, dry skin on your upper arm. It stays sealed against you for eight hours and releases six hair actives gradually into your bloodstream.

That's the whole routine. No foam. No pills. No five-step regimen you'll abandon in three weeks. Peel, stick, forget.

Built on one decision

Every choice in this product follows from a single conclusion: if the actives don't reach the follicle, nothing else matters. Not the ingredient list, not the dose on the label, not the marketing. So the delivery system was designed first and the formula was built to fit it.

Sealed, not exposed

An occlusive patch keeps oxygen away from the peptide and keeps the actives in contact with skin instead of evaporating.

Eight hours, not eight seconds

Absorption is slow and steady rather than a spike. Follicles respond to sustained signal, not to intensity.

Systemic, not surface

Into the bloodstream, which reaches every follicle on your head — not just the patch of scalp you happened to rub.

One step, not five

80% of people quit a hair routine within 60 days. The routine that works is the one you actually keep doing.

The engineering

How we made it
transdermal.

Cross-section of skin showing patch actives passing into the bloodstream
Pills get filtered before they reach your follicles. Foams evaporate before they absorb.

Skin is a barrier by design — its entire job is keeping things out. Getting past it reliably takes three things working together.

1

Small enough molecules

Transdermal absorption has a size ceiling. GHK-Cu is unusually well suited to it: at roughly 340 Da it's tiny by peptide standards. Every other active was selected to sit inside the same viable range.

2

A carrier matrix that opens the door

The actives are held in an alcohol-based matrix that temporarily loosens the outermost skin layer, letting the molecules pass through rather than sitting on top.

3

Occlusion and time

The patch seals the area. Skin hydrates underneath, permeability rises, and the actives are delivered across eight hours instead of thirty seconds — with no air contact to oxidise the peptide.

Why this beats swallowing it

Anything you swallow passes through your liver before it reaches circulation — the first-pass effect. A large share of the active is metabolised before it does anything. Transdermal delivery bypasses that route entirely.

The same delivery method has been used in medicine since 1979 for pain relief, nicotine and hormone therapy. The technology isn't new. Applying it to hair actives is.

The counterintuitive part — read this one twice

Why you wear it
on your body,
not your head.

This is the single question we get asked most: "It's a hair patch — shouldn't it go on my scalp?" No. And the reason is the whole point of the product.

Every scalp treatment you've used before worked topically: it sat on the surface and tried to soak down into the skin beneath it. That approach has three problems that can't be engineered away.

  • It only treats where you put it. Rub a serum on your crown and your temples get nothing. You'd have to cover your entire scalp, perfectly, every day.
  • Hair is in the way. A patch cannot seal against a surface covered in hair. Adhesion fails, the seal breaks, and absorption becomes a lottery.
  • Scalp skin is not ideal for absorption. It's oily, constantly washed, and what does penetrate stays largely local.

Hair+ Please works systemically

The patch goes on your upper arm — smooth, dry, consistent skin that a patch can seal against for eight hours. From there the actives enter your bloodstream.

And your bloodstream goes everywhere

Every one of your roughly 100,000 follicles is fed by capillaries. Crown, temples, hairline, the part, the back — all of them, at the same concentration, without you aiming at anything. That is something no topical product can do.

It's the same logic as a nicotine patch. You don't put it on your lungs. You put it where the skin absorbs reliably, and let circulation handle the delivery.

💡

Practical rule

Upper arm, shoulder or hip. Clean and dry. Alternate arms every single day — the most common cause of irritation is using the same spot repeatedly.

Pills Foam / serum Hair+ Please
Reaches follicles After digestion and liver filtering Surface only, where applied Bloodstream, every follicle
Peptide survives Largely broken down Oxidises on air contact Sealed, no air contact

What a patch does well

  • Skips the stomach entirely
  • Steady release, no spikes or crashes
  • No first-pass loss in the liver
  • Absorbs consistently every day
  • One step you'll actually keep doing

What it doesn't do

  • Work overnight — hair takes months
  • Replace medical treatment
  • Reverse a fully closed follicle
  • Reverse grey hair
  • Fix damage you keep creating

We'd rather set the right expectation now than lose you in week five. The honest timeline is on the next page and again on page 25.

The whole routine

Peel. Stick.
Forget.

How it works: peel, stick, forget
1

Peel

Take one patch from the backing sheet and peel off the protective film. Try not to touch the adhesive surface with your fingertips.

2

Stick

Clean, dry skin on your upper arm (shoulder or hip also work). Press firmly for 10–15 seconds so the edges seal properly.

3

Forget

Wear for up to 8 hours, then peel off and discard. Day or night — whichever fits your life. Repeat tomorrow on the other arm.

Three details that matter more than they look

  • Alternate arms every day. Same spot daily is the number one cause of irritation, and irritation is the number one reason people stop.
  • No lotion or oil on the area first. It sits between the patch and your skin and blocks absorption.
  • Pick one time and keep it. Not because timing is biologically critical, but because a fixed time is what turns this into a habit instead of a decision.
💡

Pro tip

Keep your patches next to your toothbrush or deodorant. Anchoring a new habit to an existing one is the most reliable way to make it stick.

If you notice mild redness: not unusual, and it usually fades within a few hours. If irritation lasts more than 24 hours, stop using and get in touch.

The honest timeline

Let's build
your routine.

Small steps. Real density. At your own pace.

You've dealt with harder things than sticking a patch on your arm. You already know that real change takes time and that consistency pays off. That experience is your actual advantage here — because hair is the most patience-dependent thing in your body.

The number nobody wants to print

Hair grows about one centimetre a month. No product on earth changes that — not this one, not prescription options. A follicle that gets the signal today produces hair you can see weeks later. That's not a limitation of the patch. It's biology, and it applies to everything.

What actually changes, and when

Timeframe What most people notice
Week 1–2 Nothing visible. This is expected. You're building the habit.
Week 3–5 Less hair in the drain and brush — usually the first real signal. Some people see a temporary increase in shedding here. That's page 25.
Week 6–8 Short new hairs along the hairline and part, easiest to see under direct light.
Week 8–12 Visible change in density and the width of the part.
Month 4–6 Where most of the visible density change actually lands.

Why habits beat motivation

Motivation comes and goes — that's normal. What stays are habits: small actions repeated until they're automatic. Think about brushing your teeth. You don't decide to do it.

With hair this matters more than with anything else. 80% of people quit their hair routine within 60 days — not because it wasn't working, but because they couldn't see it working yet. This guide exists to get you into the other 20%.

Your Routine – 04

Patch Please !

Your foundation

The 3-Pillar
Method.

Pillar 1 · Your daily anchor

The patch, every day, no exceptions. Follicles respond to sustained input, not intensity. A patch four days a week isn't 60% of the result — it's a broken signal. This is the one thing in the guide with no 80/20 rule.

Pillar 2 · Stop the damage you control

Not all hair loss is hormonal. A meaningful share of what people call thinning is mechanical and self-inflicted — tight styles, heat, rough brushing, harsh products. This is free, it works immediately, and almost everyone skips it. You cannot out-grow damage you keep creating.

Pillar 3 · Support the system behind the hair

Hair is the first thing your body deprioritises under strain. Sleep, protein, iron, stress and circulation aren't bonus tips — they're the conditions your follicles run on. Get these roughly right and everything else works better.

Three pillars. One patch a day. Twelve weeks. That's the entire system. Everything from here is detail and support.

Section five

The science
of hair.

Most people don't have a hair problem. They have a signalling problem, a cycle problem, and a biology problem that nobody ever explained to them.

If you've spent years quietly blaming yourself — for genetics, for stress, for not finding the right shampoo — stop. Your follicles are doing exactly what they're designed to do under the conditions they're being given.

What follows is the part of this guide people tell us they come back to. It's the explanation you should have had years ago, before anyone sold you anything.

The four phases

The hair
growth cycle.

Every hair on your head runs an independent clock. They're deliberately out of sync — which is why you don't shed all at once like a dog in spring.

Anagen — the growth phase

2–7 years

The follicle actively produces hair. Around 85–90% of your hairs are here right now. The longer your anagen phase, the longer and thicker your hair can get — this is the single most valuable variable in all of hair biology.

Catagen — the transition

2–3 weeks

The follicle detaches from its blood supply and shrinks. About 1% of hairs at any time.

Telogen — the rest

2–4 months

The hair sits in the follicle doing nothing. Around 10–15% of hairs.

Exogen — the shed

50–100/day

The old hair releases to make room for a new one. Losing 50–100 hairs a day is completely normal. That's not loss — that's turnover.

The insight that changes everything

Thinning usually isn't about hairs falling out. It's about the ratio shifting.

When more follicles sit in telogen and fewer stay in anagen, you shed the same amount but replace less. Density drops quietly over months — and by the time you notice, the shift has been running for a while. This is also exactly why every hair intervention takes months to show. You're not growing hair faster. You're moving follicles back into anagen, then waiting for that hair to get long enough to see.

Root causes

Why hair thins:
the five drivers.

Almost all non-medical thinning traces back to five things. Most people have two or three running at the same time.

1 · Hormonal signalling (DHT)

DHT is a hormone derivative that binds to receptors in genetically sensitive follicles and gradually miniaturises them. Each cycle produces a slightly finer, shorter hair until the follicle stops producing anything visible. The biggest driver of pattern thinning in both men and women.
→ Saw palmetto and pumpkin seed are the botanical actives associated with this pathway.

2 · Stress and the delayed shed

A major stressor — illness, surgery, grief, a crash diet, childbirth — can push a large share of follicles into telogen simultaneously. The shed appears 2–3 months later, which is why almost nobody connects cause and effect.
→ Usually temporary, and it recovers.

3 · Nutrient gaps

Low ferritin (iron stores), low protein, low vitamin D, low zinc. Hair is the first system your body defunds — and one of the few causes you can actually test for.
→ Ask for a ferritin test, not just haemoglobin.

4 · Age and declining signalling

Anagen phases shorten. Repair signalling — including GHK-Cu — declines. Follicles receive less instruction and spend more time resting.
→ This is the driver Hair+ Please was built around.

5 · Mechanical damage and inflammation

Tension styles, heat, harsh chemistry and chronic scalp inflammation. The category you control most directly — and the one almost everyone ignores.
→ Free to fix. Starts working immediately. Week 2 of the plan.

Pigment

Why hair
goes grey.

Grey hair is the one hair change almost everybody gets, and the one nobody explains properly. Here's what's actually happening.

Your hair has no colour

A hair shaft is transparent keratin. Colour is injected into it during growth by cells called melanocytes, sitting at the base of each follicle. They produce melanin and feed it into the hair as it forms. A grey hair isn't a hair that lost its colour — it's a hair that was never given any.

Cause 1 · The stem cell reservoir runs down

Melanocytes are replaced each cycle from a reserve of stem cells in the follicle. That reserve is finite. Each cycle draws on it, and eventually a follicle starts a new hair with no pigment cells available. That follicle now grows grey hair permanently.

Cause 2 · Hydrogen peroxide accumulates

Follicles naturally produce small amounts of hydrogen peroxide. Young follicles neutralise it with an enzyme called catalase. Catalase activity declines with age, peroxide accumulates — and it bleaches the hair from the inside while also interfering with melanin production.

Cause 3 · Copper availability

Tyrosinase, the rate-limiting enzyme for melanin, is copper-dependent. Without copper in its active site it can't function. This is why copper appears constantly in pigment research — and why GHK-Cu, a copper carrier, keeps coming up in the conversation.

Cause 4 · Acute stress

The "went grey overnight" cliché has a real mechanism behind it. Research has shown that intense activation of the sympathetic nervous system can deplete melanocyte stem cells, accelerating the process. Stress doesn't bleach existing hair — it burns through the reserve faster.

The honest bottom line: once a follicle's pigment stem cells are gone, nothing available today reliably brings them back. Supporting copper availability and reducing oxidative and stress load are supportive of normal pigment biology — they are not a reversal. Anyone promising you otherwise is selling something.

The misdiagnosis

Half of "thinning"
isn't thinning.

This is the most under-appreciated fact in hair care, and it costs people years: a hair that snapped in half looks identical to a hair that never grew.

You have the same number of follicles, all producing normally — but the shaft is breaking somewhere along its length. The result in the mirror is thinner-looking hair, more short pieces, and a ponytail that's lost its weight. People treat it as loss and buy growth products, when the problem is entirely downstream.

Loss or breakage? How to tell

Actual shedding Breakage
The end of the hair Small white/pale bulb at one end No bulb — snapped clean at both ends
Length Full length Short fragments of varying length
Where you see it Drain, pillow, brush Everywhere — clothes, sink, in the hair itself
Scalp appearance More scalp visible Halo of short flyaways at the crown

Why hair goes dull and lifeless

The outer layer of the shaft — the cuticle — is made of overlapping scales, like roof tiles. When they lie flat, light reflects and hair looks glossy. Heat, bleach, hard water and rough brushing lift and chip those scales. Light scatters instead of reflecting, and the hair reads as dull, rough and thin even when density is completely fine.

The good news: breakage is the fastest-fixing hair problem there is. Not a single follicle is involved. Change how you handle it and the improvement shows in weeks, not months — which is why Week 2 of the plan is dedicated entirely to it.

Folklore, corrected

Hair myths
debunked.

Myth 01
"Hair loss comes from your mother's side."

Oversimplified. Hair genetics are polygenic and come from both sides of your family. Look at both — and remember genetics set the tendency, not the timeline.

Myth 02
"Cutting your hair makes it grow faster."

No. Growth happens at the follicle, below the skin — a pair of scissors has no influence there. Cutting removes split ends and makes hair look thicker, which is useful, but it isn't growth.

Myth 03
"Wearing hats causes hair loss."

No. A normal hat doesn't restrict follicles. A hat worn tight enough to cause traction, every day, for years — that's a different conversation.

Myth 04
"Losing hair in the shower means something's wrong."

Usually not. 50–100 hairs a day is normal turnover, and shower hair looks dramatic because a day's worth arrives at once. Watch the trend over weeks, not one drain.

Myth 05
"Biotin fixes hair loss."

Only if you're deficient — and genuine biotin deficiency is rare. Biotin supports the quality of the hair you're already growing. It doesn't restart a dormant follicle. It's in this formula for strand strength, not as the hero.

Folklore, corrected

Hair myths
part two.

Myth 06
"Once it's gone, it's gone."

Not immediately. A miniaturised follicle can stay viable for years before it's truly lost. That's exactly why acting earlier matters — and why waiting is the one strategy with no upside whatsoever.

Myth 07
"Expensive shampoo will fix it."

Shampoo works on hair, not follicles. It sits on your scalp for sixty seconds and leaves. It can improve scalp condition and reduce breakage — both worth having — but it cannot change your growth cycle.

Myth 08
"Standing on your head boosts growth."

No. Blood flow to the scalp isn't the bottleneck for most people, and inversion doesn't meaningfully change it. A daily scalp massage is the version of this idea that has actual support behind it.

Myth 09
"Hair loss is a men's issue."

Wrong, and the assumption causes real harm. Roughly half of women experience noticeable thinning in their lifetime — most often diffuse thinning through the part rather than a receding hairline. It's simply discussed far less, so women wait longer before acting.

Myth 10
"If nothing's happened in 4 weeks, it isn't working."

Four weeks is not an assessment window. Hair grows about 1 cm a month, and follicles reactivated today produce visible hair weeks later. The first honest checkpoint is week 8. The real one is week 12. Anything judged before that is guesswork.

Read this before week five

The shed phase.

Somewhere between week 3 and week 6, some people notice a temporary increase in shedding. If that happens to you, it is expected, it is documented, and it is not the product failing. This page exists so you know that before it happens rather than after.

Why it happens

Go back to the cycle on page 19. A follicle that has been sitting in telogen is holding an old, finished hair in place. That hair is essentially parked — it isn't growing, it's just still attached.

When that follicle is signalled back toward the growth phase, it has to evict the old hair to make room for the new one. The old hair is pushed out. You see it in the drain.

The old hair has to leave before the new one can arrive.

This is why it happens with essentially every intervention that does anything at all — including prescription treatments, where it's a well-documented and expected phase. Paradoxically, a shed is often the first physical evidence that follicles are responding.

What to actually do

  • Keep going. Stopping here means the follicle evicts the old hair and then gets no signal to produce the new one — the worst of both outcomes.
  • Take a photo. Week 5 is a scheduled photo point for exactly this reason.
  • Expect it to settle within a few weeks.
  • Be handling your hair gently — this is not the week for tight styles and heat.

Week 5 is where the majority of people quit a hair routine. Not because it stopped working — because nobody told them this page existed. Now you've read it.

Small moves that stack

Habits that
actually work.

1 · The baseline photo protocol

Same spot, same light, same angle, every two weeks. Three shots: front hairline, part line, crown from above. This is the single most valuable habit in this guide. Your memory of your own hair is genuinely unreliable, and change this gradual is invisible without a reference point.

2 · The 60-second scalp massage

Firm circular fingertip pressure, daily. Cheap, pleasant, and associated with scalp circulation and hair thickness in small studies. Do it while your patch is on.

3 · Loosen everything

If you can feel tension at your hairline, it's too tight. Swap the tight elastic for a fabric scrunchie and give your hairline days off entirely. Sustained tension causes loss that eventually becomes permanent.

4 · Protein at breakfast

The meal where most people have none. Hair is roughly 90% keratin — a protein. Fixing this one meal moves your daily total more than any supplement will.

5 · Wide-tooth comb, ends first

Never drag a brush from the roots down through a tangle, especially when wet — wet hair stretches and snaps. Start at the ends and work upward. This one habit eliminates a surprising amount of "thinning" that was actually breakage.

6 · The pillowcase swap

Silk or satin reduces overnight friction. Small effect, zero effort, no downside.

The rules

The Patch Please
hair foundation.

There are roughly a thousand hair products promising the one thing that changes everything. The truth is simpler: a handful of inputs drive most of your result, and the rest is noise. These six rules aren't commandments. They're a compass for when life gets messy.

Rule #1 · Use your patch. Every day.

Before anything else. Follicles respond to a sustained signal — a patch four times a week isn't 60% of the result, it's a broken signal.

  • One patch daily, clean dry skin on the upper arm
  • Wear up to 8 hours
  • Alternate arms every day
  • No lotion or oil on the area beforehand

Rule #2 · Stop the mechanical damage

The fastest win in the whole guide, and it's free.

  • Loosen tight styles. Tight ponytails, buns, braids and extensions put constant tension on the follicle. Sustained tension causes real loss along the hairline that eventually becomes permanent.
  • Turn the heat down. Dryers and irons don't kill follicles, but they break the shaft — and breakage looks exactly like thinning.
  • Never brush hard when wet. Wet hair stretches and snaps. Wide-tooth comb, start at the ends, work up.
You cannot out-grow damage you're still creating.

Rule #3 · Feed the follicle

A hair follicle is one of the fastest-dividing cell groups in your body. It's expensive to run, and your body treats it as optional.

  • Protein at every meal — especially breakfast. Hair is roughly 90% keratin. Chronically low intake shows up on your head months later.
  • Iron matters, especially for women. Low ferritin is one of the most common and most missed drivers of diffuse thinning. If you're shedding heavily, ask your doctor for a ferritin test — not just haemoglobin.
  • No crash diets. Rapid, aggressive calorie restriction is one of the most reliable ways to trigger a shed two to three months later.

You don't need a cabinet of supplements. Enough protein, no nutrient gaps, no extremes. That's genuinely most of the nutrition chapter.

Rule #4 · Treat your scalp like skin

Because it is skin, and it's the environment your follicles live in.

  • Wash often enough that oil and product don't sit on the follicle. "Never washing" is not a growth strategy.
  • If you have persistent flaking, itching or redness, deal with it properly. Scalp inflammation and hair density are directly linked.
  • Keep harsh, alcohol-heavy products off the scalp itself.
🔬

Why this pairs with the patch

The patch handles the signal from the inside. These rules handle the environment from the outside. Neither one compensates for the absence of the other.

Foundation – 06

Rule #5 · Manage the stress load

Significant stress can push a large share of follicles out of the growth phase at once, and the shedding appears two to three months later — which is why most people never connect the two events.

You can't eliminate stress. But you can stop pretending it isn't a hair factor.

  • Sleep isn't optional — growth and repair happen at night
  • Move regularly; circulation and stress both improve
  • Protect a genuine wind-down window before bed

Rule #6 · Patience over panic

The best hair routine is one you're still doing in month six. Hair grows about 1 cm a month and no product changes that number. What a good routine changes is how many follicles are actively growing and how long they stay there — and both take a full cycle to become visible.

Stay consistent 80% of the time and let the remaining 20% be imperfect without spiralling. Then you'll actually reach week 12, which is more than most people manage.

Quick summary

  • Wear your patch daily, alternating arms
  • Loosen tight styles, lower the heat, be gentle when wet
  • Protein at every meal; check ferritin if shedding is heavy
  • Treat your scalp like skin
  • Take the stress load seriously
  • Judge results at week 8 and 12 — never week 2

This foundation carries you through all twelve weeks. It's your north star, no matter where you're starting from.

The programme

The 12-week
reset.

This section is where knowledge and rules become consistent action. Twelve weeks, three phases, one focus per week. Every week has the same structure so your brain doesn't have to relearn it.

Phase 1 · Weeks 1–4 — Foundation

Baseline, ritual, damage control, scalp. There will be no visible results in this phase, and that's expected. The goal is reliability toward yourself.

Phase 2 · Weeks 5–8 — Build

The shed phase, sleep, movement, and the first honest checkpoint. This is where most people quit, and where you won't.

Phase 3 · Weeks 9–12 — Anchor

Consistency, styling for density, fine-tuning, and the handover to months 4–6 where most of the visible change actually lands.

Phase 1 · Weeks 1–4

What these weeks are about

Weeks 1–4 are your foundation. This isn't about visible results. It's about locking in the daily ritual and removing the things actively working against you.

Your goal in Phase 1 isn't growth. It's showing up.

Everything in Phase 1 is either free or takes under two minutes a day. If you do nothing else in twelve weeks except these four weeks properly, you'll still be ahead of where you started.

Phase 1 – 07

Week 1

Baseline & ritual

Weekly focus

This week is about arriving — and about creating the reference point you will measure everything else against. Do not skip the photos. Week 8 and week 12 depend entirely on them.

📸

How to take the photos

Bathroom, lights on, no window light. Phone at arm's length, same height each time. Dry hair, styled the way you normally wear it. Ten seconds. Every fortnight.

Your tasks

  • Apply your patch every day, alternating arms
  • Take your baseline photos. Three angles: front hairline, part line (parted the same way you always do), crown from above
  • Same room, same light, same time of day — save them in a dedicated album
  • Decide exactly when and where you'll apply the patch, and keep it identical all week
  • Observe without changing anything else yet: where do you actually see the problem?

Note

You don't have to do anything “right” this week. The photos alone put you ahead of almost everyone who has ever tried a hair routine.

Weekly check

  • Did I use my patch every single day?
  • Do I have three clear baseline photos saved?
  • Do I know exactly when tomorrow's patch goes on?
Phase 1 – 07

Week 2

Stop the damage

Weekly focus

This week is pure subtraction. You identify what's actively working against your hair and remove it. It's the fastest and cheapest win available to you, and it's entirely in your control.

Your tasks

  • Patch every day, alternating arms
  • Loosen every tight style — no tight ponytails, buns or braids this week
  • Cut heat styling to a maximum of twice
  • Switch to a wide-tooth comb; detangle from the ends upward, never from the roots
  • Never brush or pull hard while hair is wet
  • Note the one or two things you do most often that you now realise cause damage

Note

Breakage looks identical to thinning in the mirror. A meaningful share of what people call hair loss is hair that snapped rather than hair that fell out — see page 22.

Weekly check

  • What are my two biggest mechanical damage habits?
  • Did I get through a full week without a tight style?
  • Does my hairline feel less tense?
Phase 1 – 07

Week 3

Feed the follicle

Weekly focus

Hair is expensive for your body to produce and it's funded last. This week you make sure the raw material is actually there.

Your tasks

  • Patch every day, alternating arms
  • A protein source at every meal — especially breakfast
  • No extreme dieting or aggressive calorie cutting during these twelve weeks
  • Drink enough water across the day
  • If your shedding is heavy or recent: consider asking your doctor for a ferritin test, not just haemoglobin

Note

You don't need a cabinet of supplements. You need enough protein, no nutrient gaps and no crash diets. That is genuinely most of it.

Weekly check

  • Did I hit protein at breakfast most days?
  • Am I eating enough overall — or unintentionally under-eating?
  • Have I ever actually had my iron stores checked?
Phase 1 – 07

Week 4

Scalp health

Weekly focus

Your scalp is skin, and it's the environment your follicles live in. Inflammation, buildup and flaking all correlate with reduced density. This week you treat the ground, not the crop.

Your tasks

  • Patch every day, alternating arms
  • 60-second scalp massage daily — firm circular fingertip pressure
  • Wash often enough that oil and product don't sit on the follicle
  • If you have persistent flaking, itching or redness, address it properly rather than living with it
  • Switch to a silk or satin pillowcase if you have one

Note

“Never washing your hair” is not a growth strategy. A clean, calm, non-inflamed scalp is the baseline condition everything else depends on.

Weekly check

  • Is my scalp calmer than four weeks ago?
  • Did I do the massage at least five days?
  • Month 1 milestone: did I use my patch every single day?
Phase 1 – 07

Phase 2 · Weeks 5–8

What these weeks are about

The second phase is about staying the course when the initial excitement has worn off. You build stability, deepen the routine, and learn to handle a bad week without abandoning everything.

Week 5

The shed phase

Weekly focus

If shedding increases this week, that is expected and documented. Follicles being signalled back into the growth phase have to evict the old resting hair to make room for the new one. Page 25 explains it in full — reread it now if you need to.

Your tasks

  • Patch every day, alternating arms — especially if you're shedding
  • Do not panic-stop. This is precisely the week to keep going
  • Keep every damage-control habit from week 2 running
  • Handle your hair gently — no tight styles, minimal heat
  • Take your week 5 photo set, same spot and light as baseline

Note

This is the week the majority of people abandon a hair routine. Knowing why it happens is the entire difference between quitting and finishing.

Weekly check

  • Am I still consistent, even if shedding increased?
  • Do I understand why this happens?
  • Are my photos up to date?
Phase 2 – 08
35
Patch Please !

Week 6

Sleep & recovery

Weekly focus

Growth and repair are night processes. Chronic short sleep raises stress hormones and lowers the repair signalling your follicles depend on. This week, sleep stops being the thing you sacrifice.

Your tasks

  • Patch every day, alternating arms
  • Protect a consistent bedtime window and hold it within 30 minutes
  • Aim for 7–9 hours and treat it as part of the protocol, not a bonus
  • Build a genuine 30-minute wind-down before bed
  • Keep the daily scalp massage running

Note

There is no supplement that compensates for five hours of sleep. Your body simply doesn't run its repair shift.

Weekly check

  • Did I hit my sleep window most nights?
  • Do I feel less wired in the evening?
  • Am I still at 100% on the patch?
Phase 2 – 08
36
Patch Please !

Week 7

Movement & circulation

Weekly focus

Movement improves circulation, lowers stress hormones and supports the hormonal environment your follicles operate in. You're not exercising for your hair specifically — you're improving the system your hair depends on.

Your tasks

  • Patch every day, alternating arms
  • Move 3–4 times this week, 30–40 minutes each
  • Include at least one session that genuinely challenges you
  • Manage stress deliberately — this is a hair factor, not a soft one
  • Notice how your scalp and energy feel on movement days

Note

Stress-driven shedding shows up two to three months after the stress. What you do about stress this week is an investment in your autumn.

Weekly check

  • Did I move at least three times?
  • Is my overall stress load lower than in week 1?
  • Do I feel more resilient generally?
Phase 2 – 08

Week 8

The first real checkpoint

Weekly focus

This is the first honest assessment point. Not the mirror — the photos. You compare, you observe, and you don't judge.

Customer before and after
"After a couple of months I noticed the difference at my part." — the change is almost always seen in photos first.

Your tasks

  • Patch every day, alternating arms
  • Take your week 8 photo set and put it side by side with baseline
  • Look specifically for: short new hairs at the hairline and part, less hair in the drain and brush, and the width of the part
  • Write down three things that are different from week 1 — including habits, not just hair
  • Adjust anything in the routine that isn't sustainable

Note

What to realistically expect now: reduced shedding and short new growth visible under direct light. Not a dramatic density change — that's a week 12 to month 6 conversation.

Weekly check

  • What do the photos show that the mirror didn't?
  • What's working well, and what can I simplify?
  • Two-month milestone: how many days did I miss?
Phase 2 – 08

Phase 3 · Weeks 9–12

What these weeks are about

In the final phase it's no longer about building — it's about longevity. You learn to stay flexible, handle real life, and still return to the system. The goal: this should feel normal.

Week 9

Consistency over everything

Weekly focus

Weeks 9–12 are where the compounding happens, and where the discipline is least exciting. Nothing new is being added. You are simply not stopping.

Your tasks

  • Patch every day, alternating arms — the 80/20 rule applies to everything except this
  • Keep every Phase 1 habit running: loose styles, low heat, gentle detangling, protein, massage
  • Allow an imperfect week without abandoning the system
  • Notice how automatic the routine has become

Note

The unglamorous middle is where the result is actually built. Everyone can do week 1. Very few people reach week 12.

Weekly check

  • Is the patch automatic now, or still something I think about?
  • Which habits have genuinely stuck?
  • Where am I quietly sliding back?
Phase 3 – 09

Week 10

Style for density

Weekly focus

While the biology works underneath, you can change what's visible today. This isn't cosmetic cheating — it removes the daily discouragement that makes people quit.

Your tasks

  • Patch every day, alternating arms
  • Change your parting. Hair trained in one direction for years lies flat and exposes the scalp line; a new parting adds visible volume immediately
  • Keep heavy conditioners and oils off the roots — they weigh hair down and read as thinner
  • Blow-dry roots upward on a cool setting rather than flat
  • Consider a shorter or blunter cut — blunt ends read denser than tapered ones

Note

Looking better today makes it far easier to stay consistent for the biology that shows up in month four.

Weekly check

  • Does my hair look fuller than four weeks ago?
  • Have I stopped structuring my day around hiding it?
Phase 3 – 09

Week 11

Fine-tuning

Weekly focus

This week you reflect on what actually changed — including how you think about all of this. Your relationship with the process has probably shifted more than your density has, and that's the part that determines the next six months.

Your tasks

  • Patch every day, alternating arms
  • Review the whole system: what's sustainable, and what was theatre?
  • Cut anything you've been doing out of anxiety rather than effect
  • Be kind to yourself about the days you missed
  • Movement, sleep and scalp care stay in

Note

Self-leadership is stronger than self-control. A routine you'll still be doing in month six beats a perfect one you abandon in month two.

Weekly check

  • How do I treat this today compared to week 1?
  • What am I doing that I could drop without losing anything?

Week 12

Transition

Weekly focus

This week marks not an endpoint, but a transition. The system stays — the twelve-week frame ends.

The honest part

Twelve weeks is where hair becomes measurable, not where it finishes. A full growth cycle runs longer, and months 4 to 6 are where most of the visible density change actually lands. You are not at the finish line. You are at the point where it starts paying out.

Your tasks

  • Take your week 12 photo set. Compare directly against baseline, not against memory
  • Reflect on the entire twelve weeks
  • Define three habits that stay — non-negotiable
  • Decide consciously how you're continuing: patch, damage control, scalp care
  • Set your next photo checkpoints: month 4 and month 6

Note

You're not starting over at zero. You're carrying forward a system that's already running.

Weekly check

  • What do baseline and week 12 show side by side?
  • Which version of myself do I want to keep being?
  • Where would I be in six months if I simply keep this up?

Looking back

Your review.
Your pride.
Your next step.

If you've made it this far, you've done something most people never follow through on: you stayed with it. Not perfectly. Not always motivated. But consistently — and that is exactly the difference.

What really changed

Take time with this. Not to judge — to acknowledge.

Hair & scalp

  • What do my week 12 photos show against day 1?
  • How has the shedding changed — drain, brush, pillow?
  • Can I see short new hairs at my hairline or part?
  • Does my scalp feel calmer than it did in week 1?

Habits

  • Which damage habits have I actually eliminated?
  • How automatic is the patch now?
  • What do I do differently day to day?

Mindset

  • How often do I think about my hair compared to twelve weeks ago?
  • Do I still check my part in every mirror I pass?
  • How does it feel to have finished something I started?

Write the answers down. They're proof of your growth — in both senses of the word.

Keep going

A moment
for pride.

Many people wait to feel proud until they've "arrived" somewhere. But pride is built on the journey. It happens:

  • When you kept going through week 5, even while shedding
  • When you applied your patch on a day you didn't care about your hair at all
  • When you left the tight ponytail alone
  • When you looked at your photos instead of panicking at a mirror

All of that counts. You're not where you started.

Your keep-going plan

Transformation doesn't end after twelve weeks. With hair, that's genuinely when it starts to show. Months 4 to 6 are where the follicles you signalled in week 3 produce hair long enough to see. Everything you've built is still running.

My 3 non-negotiable habits

(e.g. patch daily · loose styles only · photos every 4 weeks)

Month 4 photo set
Month 6 photo set
My new identity — complete the sentence

"I am someone who…"

(e.g. "finishes what I start," "acts early instead of waiting," "takes myself seriously")

One last thing

When things
get bumpy.

Missed days aren't failure. They're part of change. What matters is one thing: you get back in.

Not on Monday. Not next month. Today. One patch. One loose ponytail. One photo. That's enough to be back in the system.

And if you have a heavy shedding week in month four — take the photo, check the timeline on page 25, and keep going. Panic has never regrown a single hair.

Your simplest hair routine — Hair+ Please
In twelve weeks you haven't "just" worked on your hair.
You've proved you can commit to something with a slow payoff.

That's rarer than it sounds. Almost everything genuinely worth having pays out on exactly this timeline — and almost everyone quits before it does.

More patience. More consistency. More self-leadership. And nobody can take that from you.

Congratulations on completing your 12-Week Hair Reset. Now keep going. 💪
